Patronus Counselling

Sometimes the first step is the hardest step...

Not always easy is it? Realising you might need some support, then taking that first step towards asking for it...Sometimes we can feel pressure to 'cope', and to cope on our own - especially when it comes to mental health. We might feel other people are coping better, or not being affected by things that are affecting us. People might tell us 'other people have it worse than you' and make out that we are not right to feel what we are feeling...Something may have happened that we feel we cannot talk about to those around us, through fear of judgement or repercussions of some kind. Whatever is affecting your mental health in a negative way, counselling is a safe space where you are accepted for you, so you can openly tell your story and explore and gain deeper insight into what's going on for you in your world.

Welcome to your first step...

Choosing the right counsellor for you...

It's important you find the right counsellor for YOU as an unique individual, because the therapeutic relationship you will have with your counsellor is a very important part of the process... Ideally in counselling you should 'click' with your counsellor and they should make you feel heard, safe, understood and valued. Each individual counsellor, as human beings, will have areas of strength and other areas that are not so strong.... So it is also important that you find a counsellor that has a skillset that can work effectively with what you are bringing to therapy, so that you are getting the best service for you as an individual. It's ethical and good practice for a counsellor to signpost you to an alternative counsellor or appropriate service if they feel their skillset doesn't match your specific needs.

A bit about me...

My name is Kerry and I currently have a small private practice under the name of 'Patronus Counselling'. I'm a qualified Person-Centred counsellor (MBACP Accred, fully insured and DBS checked) who has several years of experience of working with a range of mental health issues, in various mental health settings including the NHS where I gained an extra qualification in the NHS approved Counselling for Depression (CfD) therapeutic approach.I have worked therapeutically with both adults and young people and believe that everyone who finds themselves struggling with their mental health, should access the support needed to help support their mental health. As a Person-Centred trained counsellor, I believe in self-compassion and the power of enabling a person to have a voice and the importance of providing a 'safe space' where individuals can feel comfortable in expressing themselves and exploring their thoughts and feelings, without fear of judgement or unnecessary repercussions. I offer talk therapy support with common mental heath problems such as depression and low mood, low level anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief and bereavement.

Online counselling sessions

Online sessions are £45 per session.

Online counselling (phone or video) sessions can often be more convenient for people who are busy and/or don't have personal transport as there is no need find the time or means to travel to your counsellor. What you will need is to make sure you are in a quiet, confidential and private space where you talk openly and freely without interuption or distraction. There is no evidence to say that online counselling sessions are any less effective than face-to-face sessions, so it is down to personal choice and circumstances as to how you have your sessions.

Face-to-face counselling sessions

Face to face sessions are £50 per session.

The traditional method of engaging in counselling is face-to-face, where you would attend your sessions at my counselling room based in Rotherham (S65). It is a privately owned building shared with other holistic businesses, so access requires an appointment. There is a communal waiting area for if you arrive to your appointment early and toilet facilities for your comfort.
